About Destiny
So like a lot of people with the PS4/Xbone I have been playing Destiny this past week or so since launch. The review scores have been quite moderate to average for the game even though it has sold well and reviewers where held back mostly due to it being an online game and I guess some people would say it was a deliberate choice to hold back these reviews because they knew it wasn't going to score well. I am not sure I believe that but I think that there was some disconnect between what some people thought it would be via the marketing and what those that played the Beta/Alpha's already knew.
Personally I think they were always going to find it tough as it mashed together at least a handful of other games and even games from other genres and at least in the base game doesn't feel like it does any one thing that well. Clearly it feels a lot like Halo as its a Bungie title but has links through to things like the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer and art style and games like Borderlands as well as MMO's such as Guild Wars. I think at least one friend thought it would be more an MMO but it's totally not even if it borrows some elements it is more like Borderlands.
I do feel that there are some seriously mediocre stuff in the game the story is just so bland and generic and even as someone who usually has little interest in story I would say I would be disappointed by the quality of the story. Even the voice acting in the game is bland which just mostly sound like they where disinterested in the dialogue and who could blame them. I also find some of the menu navigation a bit difficult to navigate and not really sure why they went for the mouse style navigation and the mission markers that sometimes break and send you the wrong way.
However these negative out the way the visuals are amazing with a lot of quality in the shaders/textures and models in the game as well as some nice set pieces if not as many as in Halo etc. I think the game actual takes some getting used to and doing the story doesn't probably get you a good understanding of the core game however getting to level 20 and then having to level your armour and chase for new gear is probably where it unlocks for more determined MMO/Borderlands players.\n\nOverall I think there needs more content and maybe there will be more MMO style content patches with new missions and challenges per week which was also something later Halo's had with weekly challenge mission and fire fights. I think that while it isn't maybe the best game ever it is the best thing on the PS4 for the moment and it has a chance of more content to make it shine.
