So over the past 8 months I have been learning to drive, essentially I started to learn as most do in their teenage years but with one thing and another never got to the practical test. I mostly got around on public transport, got lifts or lived close and walked into my place of work and for the most part this was sufficient.
As some of you know about 3 years ago I got let go from my long term role as a games designer at Frontier. I had a few different roles since then but last year the company Geomerics where I currently work was bought out by Arm and moved to their Cambridge HQ. While there were a lot of new benefits one issue was this effectively increased my travel to about 1 and a half hours and up to 2 hours via public transport.
The solution was to complete my driving test and get on the road. So after the first 4 months of this I went for my theory and pretty much aced it with only one single question wrong (which I think was not an updated question on the app I used) and passed the hazard perception.
I was getting ready for my practical test but had to delay due to confidence issues and trying to get to the point where I was robust enough to pass. It has paid off as I passed the practical first time to.
I wanted to leave a few helpful applications and YouTube videos I found along the way to maybe help others.
Android Apps - Good for the theory/hazard test.
YouTube Videos - Helpful for tips about the practical
World Driving - Show me/Tell me. This covers a common instructors car.
First Drive Channel - Covers lots of areas of the practical test.
